How to Vote for Super Representatives on TRON
Voting for Super Representatives (SRs) is how you earn staking rewards on TRON. After freezing TRX, your voting power lets you elect block producers who share TRX rewards with their supporters. This guide covers the complete voting workflow.
Voting prerequisites
Before voting, you need:
- Frozen TRX — voting power = frozen amount (1 TRX = 1 vote)
- Activated wallet — TronLink or compatible wallet
- Bandwidth — minimal, covered by free daily allowance or frozen Bandwidth
Unfrozen TRX does not provide voting power. Freeze first, vote second.
Understanding your voting power
| Frozen TRX | Voting power | Can split votes? |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1,000 votes | Yes |
| 50,000 | 50,000 votes | Yes |
| 0 (unfrozen) | 0 votes | N/A |
Votes can be distributed across multiple SRs. For example, 10,000 frozen TRX could allocate 6,000 votes to SR-A and 4,000 to SR-B.
Choosing a Super Representative
Research SRs on TronScan SR page. Key metrics:
- APR / APY — estimated annual return to voters
- Reward ratio — percentage of SR earnings shared with voters
- Blocks produced — uptime indicator
- Total votes — community trust signal

TronScan provides the most detailed SR statistics for informed decisions.
After voting: rewards
Voting rewards arrive automatically from most SRs:
- Frequency: Every 6 hours (4 cycles per day)
- Currency: TRX added to your wallet balance
- Rate: Depends on SR reward ratio and total votes for that SR
Check rewards:
- TronScan → your address → Voting Rewards tab
- TronLink → transaction history (filter by reward type)
Compound rewards by freezing additional TRX and re-voting. Use the staking rewards calculator to project earnings.
Changing your vote
Re-voting is free and instant:
- Vote for a new SR (adds to or replaces previous allocation)
- Or use Cancel Vote to remove votes from an SR
- Reassign freed votes to a different SR
No 14-day lock applies to vote changes — only to unfreezing TRX.
Common mistakes
Freezing but not voting. Most common error — users freeze for Energy and forget to vote, missing 3–7% APY.
Chasing highest APY blindly. Extremely high rates may be unsustainable. Verify SR track record.
Voting then unfreezing. Unfreezing reduces votes proportionally. Rewards stop for the unfrozen portion.
Using exchange TRX. Exchange balances cannot vote. Withdraw to self-custody first.
Voting and account permissions
If your account uses multi-permission setup, only accounts with voting permission can cast SR votes. Standard single-key wallets have implicit full permissions.
FAQ
Do I need TRX to vote?
You need frozen TRX. Voting power equals your frozen stake — 1 frozen TRX = 1 vote. Unfrozen TRX in your balance does not count.
How much does voting cost?
Voting is nearly free — it consumes a small amount of Bandwidth. No TRX is burned for the vote transaction itself.
When do I receive voting rewards?
Most SRs distribute rewards every 6 hours (four cycles daily). Check TronScan for your accumulated voting rewards.
Can I vote for the same SR twice?
You can add more votes to an SR you already support in a separate transaction. Total votes combine.
What happens to votes when I unfreeze?
Votes decrease immediately proportional to unfrozen TRX. No manual unvote needed.
