TRON Bandwidth Points Exhausted — How to Fix

7 min read · ⌘K search

Running out of Bandwidth on TRON is less common than running out of Energy — but it happens to users who send many TRX transfers in a single day. When your Bandwidth points are exhausted, transactions either burn TRX to cover the gap or fail entirely. This guide explains why it happens and how to fix it.

Understanding the problem

Every TRON account receives 600 free Bandwidth points per day. A standard TRX transfer consumes approximately 270 Bandwidth points. This means you get roughly 2 free TRX transfers per day before running out.

When Bandwidth is exhausted:

  1. With TRX in wallet → TRON burns ~0.1 TRX per transaction to cover Bandwidth
  2. Without TRX → transaction fails with a Bandwidth error
USDT transfers are not affected
Bandwidth exhaustion does not impact USDT or other TRC-20 transfers. Those use Energy. If your USDT transfer failed, you likely have an Energy problem, not Bandwidth.

Symptoms

  • Transaction fails with BANDWIDTH_ERROR or similar message
  • TronLink shows 0 available Bandwidth
  • TRX transfers fail despite having TRX balance
  • Small TRX amounts disappearing (~0.1 per failed attempt)

Fix 1: Wait for daily replenishment

The simplest fix — do nothing and wait:

  • Bandwidth replenishes on a 24-hour rolling cycle
  • 600 free points return automatically
  • Enough for ~2 more TRX transfers
  • Check TronScan → your address → Resources for replenishment timing

This works if you can wait and only need occasional TRX transfers.

Fix 2: Ensure TRX balance for auto-burn

If you need to transact immediately:

  1. Make sure your wallet has at least 1–2 TRX available
  2. Retry the TRX transfer
  3. TRON burns ~0.1 TRX to cover the Bandwidth shortfall
  4. Transaction succeeds

This is cheap per transaction but adds up if you send TRX frequently without freezing.

Fix 3: Freeze TRX for Bandwidth

For users who regularly exceed 600 daily Bandwidth points:

  1. Open TronLink → Stake 2.0Freeze
  2. Enter TRX amount (5–10 TRX is sufficient for most users)
  3. Select Bandwidth as the resource type
  4. Confirm the freeze
  5. Your daily Bandwidth allowance increases proportionally

Frozen TRX can be unfrozen after 14 days. See how much TRX to freeze — the Bandwidth section.

Most users do not need this
If you send TRX fewer than 2 times per day, your free 600 points are sufficient. Only freeze for Bandwidth if you are a high-volume TRX sender.

Fix 4: Receive delegated Bandwidth

Another account can delegate Bandwidth to yours:

  1. A delegator with frozen TRX shares Bandwidth to your address
  2. Your Bandwidth balance increases immediately
  3. Use it for TRX transfers until delegation is revoked

This is rare for Bandwidth but follows the same model as Energy delegation. See energy delegation explained.

Most USDT users will never encounter Bandwidth exhaustion. If you are hitting Bandwidth limits, you are probably sending a lot of TRX — consider whether those transfers could be consolidated.

Prevention tips

  1. Batch TRX transfers — combine multiple payments into fewer transactions
  2. Use USDT for payments — if the recipient accepts USDT, use that instead (different resource)
  3. Monitor Bandwidth — check TronScan Resources tab if you send TRX daily
  4. Freeze if needed — 5–10 TRX frozen for Bandwidth covers heavy TRX usage
  5. Keep 1 TRX buffer — ensures auto-burn works when Bandwidth runs out
For most users
If you primarily use USDT on TRON, Bandwidth exhaustion is not your concern. Focus on Energy management instead. Your free 600 daily Bandwidth points handle occasional TRX moves without issue.

Checking Bandwidth on TronScan

  1. Go to TronScan
  2. Search your TRON address
  3. Click the Resources section
  4. View: Bandwidth limit, used, and available
  5. Note the replenishment timer if shown

FAQ

What happens when TRON Bandwidth is exhausted?

TRON burns approximately 0.1 TRX per transaction to cover the Bandwidth shortfall. If you also lack TRX, the transaction fails with a Bandwidth error.

How do I get more Bandwidth on TRON?

Wait for your daily 600 free points to replenish (24-hour cycle), freeze TRX for Bandwidth via Stake 2.0, or receive delegated Bandwidth from another account.

Does exhausted Bandwidth affect USDT transfers?

No. USDT transfers use Energy, not Bandwidth. Bandwidth exhaustion only affects TRX transfers and basic account operations.
